Im Westen ruht die Insel auf den ber\u00fchmten Caldera-Klippen, die majest\u00e4tisch in die blaue \u00c4g\u00e4is abfallen. Gegen\u00fcber liegen die Vulkane Nea Kameni und Palia Kameni. Im Osten f\u00e4llt das Land zum Meer ab, wo sich die Strandst\u00e4dte Kamari, Perissa und Perivolos befinden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Santorini hatte im Laufe der Geschichte viele Namen, die alle von den wechselnden Formen des Vulkans herr\u00fchrten: Strongili \u201eDer Runde\u201c, Kallisti \u201eDer Sch\u00f6ne\u201c und von Eroberern wie den Venezianern, von denen Santorini seinen popul\u00e4ren Namen erhielt. Der offizielle Name f\u00fcr Santorini ist Thira, nach dem Kommandanten und Sohn von Sparta, K\u00f6nig Thiras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kleine wei\u00dfe H\u00e4user, Kirchen mit blauen Kuppeln und gewundene Pfade durchziehen die H\u00fcgel. Ihr Name darf nicht mit Thira verwechselt werden, dem offiziellen Titel von Santorini. Fira liegt an den Klippen der Caldera gegen\u00fcber dem Vulkan und dem Sonnenuntergang und bietet eine F\u00fclle von Gesch\u00e4ften, Museen und Galerien, Restaurants und Unterhaltungsm\u00f6glichkeiten. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ein Mekka des Nachtlebens, am Abend funkeln die Lichter der vielen mondbeschienenen Clubs und Bars \u00fcber der Bucht. Weit unten liegt der kleine Hafen von Ormos, erreichbar mit der \u00f6rtlichen Seilbahn oder 700 Stufen am Hang. Die G\u00e4ste des Blue Dolphins k\u00f6nnen Fira zu Fu\u00df \u00fcber einen gepflasterten Weg mit spektakul\u00e4rem Blick auf Santorini erreichen. Am h\u00f6chsten Punkt der Caldera gelegen, wird Imerovigli liebevoll als der Balkon von Santorini bezeichnet. Die Aussicht ist gro\u00dfartig und erstreckt sich \u00fcber die Bucht, \u00fcber den Vulkan hinaus und bis nach Akrotiri. Die Sonnenunterg\u00e4nge sind herrlich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imerovigli ist ein Synonym f\u00fcr Sch\u00f6nheit und Stil; Schicke Restaurants, Bars, Boutiquen und Caf\u00e9s schm\u00fccken den Caldera-Pfad und die abgelegenen Gassen. Abendspazierg\u00e4nge sind magisch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imerovigli ist reich an Geschichte; Skaros Rock war eine der f\u00fcnf befestigten Siedlungen von Santorini. Einst bis Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts Hauptstadt der Insel, wurde sie aufgegeben, nachdem starke Erdbeben, die sich \u00fcber mehr als hundert Jahre erstreckten, die Gemeinde verw\u00fcsteten. Danach wurde Pyrgos die Hauptstadt und in j\u00fcngerer Zeit Fira. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In der N\u00e4he von Skaros liegt die wei\u00df get\u00fcnchte Kapelle von <em>Agios Ioannis Apokefalistheis, erreichbar \u00fcber traditionelle Caldera-Stufen. Der <\/em>Die Kirche von Anastasi mit ihrem beeindruckenden Glockenturm bietet die perfekte Kulisse f\u00fcr ein Foto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abenteuerlustige erkunden den Wanderweg entlang der Klippen der Caldera nach Oia. Nach dem Erdbeben von 1956 liebevoll restauriert, ist die Sch\u00f6nheit des malerischen Oia unbestreitbar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Das Dorf der tausend Sonnenunterg\u00e4nge auf der Caldera, Oia, war einst ein einflussreicher Handelshafen. Wohlhabende Klassen und Marineoffiziere lebten in neoklassizistischen Herrenh\u00e4usern, die als Kapit\u00e4nsh\u00e4user bekannt sind, w\u00e4hrend die Besatzungen in H\u00f6hlenh\u00e4usern lagerten. Restauriert und renoviert, sind sie seitdem zu Hotels, Ferienunterk\u00fcnften, Galerien und anderen Unternehmen geworden. Pyrgos, eine gesch\u00fctzte EU-H\u00fcgelsiedlung, verf\u00fcgt \u00fcber eine befestigte Burg \u201ePyrgos Kasteli\u201c, wo sich einst venezianische Adlige unter ihren Mauern zu einem Kaffee versammelten und \u00fcber wichtige Angelegenheiten des Tages sprachen. Pyrgos ersetzte Skaros Rock als Hauptstadt, bis Fira diese Ehre im fr\u00fchen 19. Jahrhundert an sich riss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zwischen H\u00f6hlenh\u00e4usern, neoklassizistischen Herrenh\u00e4usern und gewundenen Pfaden, die den Hang hinauff\u00fchren, finden sich in versteckten Nischen kleine Kunsthandwerksl\u00e4den, Bars und Tavernen. Kirchen und private Kapellen sind ein allt\u00e4glicher Anblick. Oben liegt der Eingang zu den Ruinen der alten Burg. Nach dem Erdbeben von 1956 und der Zerst\u00f6rung des Bergdorfes Mesa Gonia wanderten die Bewohner ans Meer und sichereren Boden ab. Die Saat von Kamari als zuk\u00fcnftiges Strand- und Urlaubsziel war geboren. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kamari Beach hat eine gepflasterte Strandpromenade mit Blick auf den Strand, die mit Sitzgelegenheiten im Freien zum Essen und Trinken ausgestattet ist. Es gibt ein Einkaufsviertel voller Boutiquen und Souvenirl\u00e4den. Abende in Kamari k\u00f6nnen Spa\u00df machen; Es gibt sogar ein Open-Air-Kino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eine lange Strecke aus schwarzem Vulkansand umfasst Perissa, Perivolos und Agios Georgios und verschmilzt sie zu einer Einheit. Akrotiri liegt an den Klippen der s\u00fcdwestlichen Caldera von Santorini und hat eine raue, windgepeitschte Sch\u00f6nheit. Aber das wichtigste Wahrzeichen in diesem kleinen Dorf sind die arch\u00e4ologischen Ausgrabungen einer kykladischen Siedlung aus der Bronzezeit, die mit der minoischen Zivilisation in Verbindung gebracht wird. Akrotiri wurde Mitte 2000 v. Chr. von einem massiven Vulkanausbruch begraben und ist wie Pompeji bemerkenswert gut erhalten.
